Since the new year is just around the corner, the time came for Amalgamated Bank of Chicago to renew their Mastercard credit cards’ 5x points categories for 2020. The cards concerned are the Amalgamated Bank of Chicago Platinum Rewards Mastercard® Credit Card and the Amalgamated Bank of Chicago Union Strong Mastercard® Credit Card.
These rewards credit cards bring their holders 5 ABOC Rewards Points per $1 spent on purchases in special categories rotating each quarter (up to $1,500 per quarter) and 1 Point per $1 spent on all other purchases (unlimitedly). The points are earned automatically from the first purchase with no activation and will not expire if you keep your account open and in good standing. To redeem the accumulated rewards, you can choose statement credits, airline miles, merchandise, gift cards, or just combine these types. Note that you must have a registered account at ABOCRewards.com.
The new calendar tends to become even more beneficial compared to this year’s one. Even though it lost the increased points for pharmacy, home improvement, and automotive purchases, it got some broader and more attractive categories in return. Just take a look yourself:
- January 1 – March 31: monthly bills (utilities, cell, cable, Amazon Prime and streaming subscription services purchases).
- April 1 – June 30: dining and transportation (grocery, restaurants and several forms of transportation).
- July 1 – September 30: travel (qualifying airline, cruise, car rental, hotel, travel agency purchases, gas, tolls, and ride share).
- October 1 – December 31: department stores (qualifying department and electronics stores, superstores, Amazon.com, and other major online retailers).
If you already own one of the mentioned ABOC credit cards, now you still have some time before the new year to get 5x points on qualifying automotive parts, service and repair purchases.
