You can apply for a secured credit card. These cards are good when you have problems with getting approved for a credit card. You will be required to put down a security deposit which is usually about $200. Your credit limit will be equal to your security deposit. The activity on a secured credit card will be reported to the major credit bureaus, so you will be able to improve your credit history and later apply for a better credit card.
There also are unsecured credit cards for people with bad credit. But these cards may require a checking account and you can be charged a processing fee.
